Join us Saturday August 1st, 2009 for the 32nd Annual Mt. Ashland Hillclimb Run & Walk. This 13.3 mile event begins in downtown Ashland's beautiful Lithia Park (el 1900') and climbs on tree-canopied dirt roads and trails to finish on the Mt. Ashland summit (7533'), for a total of 5,600' of climbing--that's over a vertical mile!
Hurrah! Another successful event in 2008!
Results are posted now. Courtesy of SmartWool and Rogue Valley Runners, we gave away over 100 pair of socks and many quality shirts. Men's and Women's winners won Vasque shoes and we gave away a Suunto wrist top computer/watch. Physical Therapy Associates helped folks after the event with some good stretches. There was good food, music and Standing Stone beer with compostable cups--cool!
A few items were left at the lodge parking lot. If you are missing one of the following, please contact me: and send me a description of the CamelBack and the Scooter with daypack.
For those of you who didn't start, we would be interested in why: injury, other plans, forgot, worried about smoke (there was almost none), etc. Suggestions for improvement always wanted.

We're part of the 2008 USATF Oregon Mountain Running Series. Lots of fun races--check 'em out.
Why was the 2007 event "the 28th annual" and this year's is the 31st? Kathy Wolfe and Larry Zowada--participants in the original Mt Ashland Hill Climb Run--sent us a newsclipping from the Ashland Daily Tidings showing us the results from the first run, held in 1978. We did the math...
The Mt Ashland Hill Climb Run has the second most elevation gain of any continuous hill climb in the continental United States. The Pikes Peak Ascent in Colorado is the only event with more--7,800 feet. We have more elevation gain than even the Mt Washington Road Race in New Hampshire (4,727'). The Run to the Sun on the island of Hawaii takes the cake, with 10,000' going from sea level to the summit of Haleakela.
The male and female winners of our race will get their names on a surviving trophy--a mini-keg of beer--generously provided by our sponsor, Standing Stone Brewing Company. This keg (and others) will be full of beer, to be responsibly enjoyed by all (of age) and will reside at Standing Stone the rest of the year. Claim your bragging rights!
Competitive runners start at 8:00 AM. Walkers and runners who want more time, but are not competing for age group or overall prizes, may start at 7:00AM.
Therapeutic Associates Physical Therapy will be hosting an aid station to help you get warmed up before the race and to help you cool down (or just celebrate) at the end of the race, or to answer questions or help address any sports medicine related issues participants may have.
Check out some of these great pics from the 2007 event. We enjoyed absolutely perfect weather.
